Mark Steyn “America alone, the end of the world as we know it”
Steyn cytuje Arnolda Toynbee: Civilizations die from suicide not murder. Właściwie może to być mottem książki.
Oprócz jeszcze tego: The central equation in human development: the intersection of demography and will.
To początek, będę dodawać.
O konieczności oddania przez państwo odpowiedzialności za swoje życie obywatelom.
There is one difference between me and the other doom-mongers. For Al Gore, Paul Ehrlich and Co., whatever the problem the solution is always the same. Whether it’s global cooling, global warming or overpopulation, we need bigger government, more regulation, higher taxes, and a massive transfer of power the citizen to some unelected self-perpetuating crisis lobby. Not only does this not solve the problem, it is, in fact, a symptom of the real problem: the torpor of the West derives in part from the annexation by government of most of the core functions of adulthood.
Big governments are “rouge states”, out of control and lacking the wit and agility to see off the threats to our freedom. Citizens willing to be “non-state actors” are just as important and, as we saw on the Flight 93, a decisive part of our defense, nimbler and more efficient than the federal behemoth. So this is a doomsday book with a twist: an apocaliptic scenario that can best be avoided not by more government but by less – by government returning to the citizentry the primal responsibilities it has taken from them in the modernn era.
Rola państwa w społeczeństwach opiekuńczych
This is the paradox of social democracy. When you demand lower taxes and less government, you’re damned by the Left as selfish. The Left, for its part, offers an appeal to moral virtue> it’s better to pay more in taxes and to share the burdens as a community. Unfortunately, nothing makes citizen more selfish than socially equitable communitarianism: once a fellow’s enjoying the fruits of government health care and all the rest, he couldn’t give a hoot about the general societal interest; he’s got his, and if it’s going to bankrupt the state a generation hence, well, as long as they can keep the checks coming till he’s dead, it’s fine by him. Somewhere along the way these countries redefined the relationship between government and citizen into something closer to pusher and addict. And once you’ve done that, it’s very hard to persuade the addict to cut back his habit. Thus the general acceptance everywhere but America is that the state should run your health care. A citizen of an advanded democracy expects to be able to choose from dozens of breakfast cereals at the supermarket, hundreds of movies at the video store, and millions of porno sites on the Internet, but when it comes to life/or/death decisions about his own body he’s happy to have the choice taken out of his hands and given to the government.
Różne statyzmy – Mielismy nazizm, komunizm, teraz mamy Eurostatyzm, również unijny
“Public interest criteria” is Europe’s code speak for a kind of easy listening tyrrany. Public interest criteria doesn’t mean criteria that the public decides are in its interest. It means that the elite- via various appointed bodies – decide what the public interest is for them. The real issue, though, is not whether you like Euro-statism. Regardless of how you feel about it, it’s kaput. The un-American activities in which Europe has invested its identity are deeply self-desctructive. Secondary-impulse states can be very agreeable – who wouldn’t want to live in a world where the burning political priorities are government subsidized day care, the celebration of one’s sexual appetites, and whether mandatory paid vacation should be six or eight weeks? But they are agreeable only for generation or two that they last. Unchecked, government social programs are a security threat because they weaken the ultimate line of defense: the free born citizen whose responsibilities are not subcontracted to the government.
The most striking characteristic of the Wahabee sect is the entire subservience which they yield to the Peer, or spiritual guide.
O imperialistycznym charakterze dominujących prądów w islamie
The Americans love Pepsi-Cola we love death.
But Islam is not just a religion. Those lefties who bemoan what America is doing to provoke “the Muslim world” would go bananas if any Western polititian started referring to “the Christian world”. When such sensitive guardians of the separation of church and state endorse the first formulation but not the second, they implicitly accept that Islam has a political sovreignity too. So it’s not merely that there ‘s a global jihad lurking within this religion, but that the relifion itself is a political project – and, in fact, an imperial project – in a way that modern Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism are not.
The religion itself is a political project.
Islam is a unitary ideology with multiple appeals. If you’re a vilient thug, embracing this particular religion doesn’t mean having to do anything icky like help with the church bazaar or be nice to gay peaple. As an Islamist, you can pretty much carry on doing allt he things you like doing and the only difference is you’ll be doing them for your new religion: you can lie, cheat, steal, rape, kill women and children, and as long as you’re doing it for Allah and his victory over the infidels, it’s cool. So we have not just a global terrorist movement and global political project but a global gang culture insulated within the West’s fastest-growing demographic.
O oszustwie multikulturowości
Contemporary multiclturalism absolves one from knowing anything about other cultures as long as one feels warm and fluffy toward them. After all, it’s grossly judgemental to say that one culter is better than another, why bother learning about the differences? Celebrate diversity with a uniformity of ignorance.
On a CO-EXIST bumper sticker the C was Islamic crescent, the O was the hippie peace sign, the X wast the star of David and the T was the Christian cross. The reality is that it’s the first of those symbols that has a problem with co-existance. The the crescent out of the equation and you wouldn’t need a bumper sticker at all. Indeed co-existance is what Islamists are at war with – or if you prefer pluralism: the idea that different groups can rub along together within the same general neighborhood.
O braku woli bronienia naszych wartości kulturowych
America has the advantage of the most powerful army on the face of the planet but she doesn’t have the stomach for war, so it’s no advantage at all.
O znaczeniu demografii
It’s not about race: it’s about culture. If 100 percent of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy, it doesn’t matter whether 70 percent of them are “white” or only 5 percent are. But if one part of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy and the other doesn’t, then it becomes a matter of great importance whether the part that does is 90 percent of the population or only 60 percent, or 50, or 45 percent.
Why did Bosnia collapse into the worst slaughter in Europe since World War Two? In the thirty years before the meltdown, Bosnian Serbs had declined from 43 percent to 31 percent of the population, while Bosnian Muslims had increased from 26 percent to 44 percent of the population. In a democratic age you can’t buck demography – except through civil war. The Serbs figured that out: if you can’t outbreed the enemy cull’em. The problem Europe faces is that Bosnia’s demographic profile is now the model for the entire continent.
We are the endangered species, not the spotted owl.
By 2050, Italy’s population will have fallen by 22 percent, Bulgaria’s by 36 percent, Estonia’s by 52 percent. In demographic terms, the salient feature of much of the “progressive agenda” – abortion, gay marriage, endlessly deferred adulthood – is that, whatever the charms of any individual item, cumulatively it’s a literal dead end. As fertility dries up, so do societies.
O imigracji
If a society chooses to outsource its breeding, who your suppliers are is not unimportant.
Can the developed world get more Muslim in its demographic character without becoming more Muslim in its political character. Islam is now the principal supplier of new Europeans. What proportion of western Muslims is hot for jihad? Islam is a religion, and an explicitely political one – unlike the birth place of your grandfather it is not something you leave behind in the old country.
The famous United Nations statistic from a 2002 report – more books are translated into Spanish in a single year than have been translated into Arabic in the last thousand. What books are among the few they do translate? Mein Kampf and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. No Islamic nation could have flown to the moon or invented the Internet, simply because for almost a millennium the culture has suppressed the curiosity necessary for such a venture.
